The management of the maweshi mandi (main sacrificial cattle market) organized on the Karachi Northern Bypass generated business activity worth Rs8 billion during the Eid ul Adha season last year. It is pertinent to note that traditional cattle market was previously set up in the Karachi Northern Bypass again and now it going to be established at the northern bypass in District West. The local authorities vow to provide facilities for buyers and traders in the cattle market including the establishment of food courts and ATMs. There would be a proper parking allocated area for the incoming customers.
A “record-breaking figure” of 600,000 animals were sold out of the approximately 700,000 sacrifice animals that were brought to the market last year.
It is pertinent to note that the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) reported that 6,360,000 animals were offered as sacrifices for Eid ul Adha in 2023, a decrease of 28% to 30% from the previous year.
