The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted rain and thunderstorms for Karachi starting June 22. Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz announced that rain is expected to hit the suburban areas of Karachi on June 22 or 23, with temperatures anticipated to soar above 38°C over the next three days.
The weather shift comes after thunderstorms and rain in various parts of Sindh on Friday, which brought a welcome drop in temperatures, offering relief from the scorching heat. Cities such as Larkana, Shikarpur, Shahdadkot, and Jacobabad experienced significant rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
In Larkana, heavy rainfall severely disrupted the electricity supply, with 40 feeders of the Sukkur Electric Supply Company (SEPCO) tripping because of the storm. According to the MET office, Larkana recorded 42mm of rain overnight. Shadadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, and surrounding areas also received substantial showers.
Residents of Karachi are advised to prepare for potential weather disruptions as the city anticipates rain and thunderstorms in the coming days.
