Abu Dhabi has pledged to invest $250 million over the next decade to enhance Karachi Port, aiming to boost economic activities in the region. This announcement was made during a meeting between Abu Dhabi Ports Pakistan CEO Khurram Aziz Khan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday.

Khurram Aziz Khan, accompanied by a delegation, detailed plans to construct a fully equipped multipurpose terminal within two years, with an initial investment of $130 million. This new terminal will enable the port to accommodate cargo ships with a capacity of up to 120,000 tonnes. Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the importance of utilizing modern technology and machinery to improve cargo and container handling efficiency, as well as reducing clearance times.

In a separate meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz met with a delegation led by Huawei Pakistan CEO Ethan Sun. The Prime Minister highlighted that Pakistan’s IT exports are expected to rise significantly with Huawei’s commitment to provide professional training to 300,000 Pakistani students annually. He stressed the importance of advanced IT training for the youth, particularly prioritizing the people of Balochistan. Huawei also expressed interest in collaborating with the Pakistani government to transform Islamabad into a smart city.

Additionally, Prime Minister Shehbaz held discussions with the Ambassador of Oman, Fahad Sulaiman Khalaf Al Kharusi, condemning the recent terrorist attack on Imambargah Ali bin Abu Talib in Muscat. He offered Pakistan’s support in combating terrorism and praised Oman’s swift response and cooperation in repatriating the bodies and treating the injured.
