The brother of late actress and model Humaira Asghar Ali, whose body was found earlier this week in an apartment in DHA Phase-VI, arrived in Karachi on Thursday to claim her remains, according to South DIG Syed Asad Raza.
DIG Raza said that Naveed Asghar, Humaira’s brother, came from Lahore to take her body back home for burial.
When he reached Karachi, Naveed met with South SSP Mahazoor Ali and Gizri SHO Farooq Ahmed Sanjrani and officially told the police he wanted to take his sister’s body to Lahore.
The DIG added that after completing legal formalities, the body will be handed over to Naveed Asghar.
Earlier, Sindh Culture Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah had said his department would arrange Humaira Asghar’s burial if her family didn’t come forward.
Reports say Minister Shah spoke with the Additional IG Karachi about the burial process. He also appointed the Director General of Culture as the main contact person for the matter.
The minister called the incident deeply tragic and said that if no family member claimed the body, the Culture Department would act as her guardian and manage all burial arrangements, including choosing a cemetery.
He stressed, however, that the department’s first priority was for the family to receive her body.
