Chehlum 2024: Karachi Schools Announce Closure on August 26th

Provincial Department of Education Declares Holiday on August 26th for Chehlum (Arbaeen) 2024

In a recent announcement by the Provincial Department of Education’s Steering Committee, it has been decided that all public and private schools across the province will remain closed on Monday, August 26th, coinciding with the 20th of Safar. This closure is in observance of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.), a day of deep religious significance in the Islamic calendar.

Understanding the Significance of Chehlum

Chehlum, observed 40 days after Ashura, marks the commemoration of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.) and his 72 companions, who were martyred in the Battle of Karbala. This day is dedicated to remembering their sacrifice and the values of justice, courage, and steadfastness that they upheld. For Muslims, especially those in Shia communities, Chehlum is a day of reflection, mourning, and reverence.

Chehlum Processions and Gatherings in 2024

Mourning processions and religious gatherings will take place across various cities and towns, as participants pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala. Security measures will be heightened to ensure the safety of those attending these events.

The decision to close schools underscores the importance of Chehlum in the province’s cultural and religious landscape, providing students and families the opportunity to fully engage in the observances of this solemn occasion.
