Electricity Prices in Karachi increased by Nearly Rs. 10 per Unit

The cost of electricity for Karachi residents has been increased by Rs. 9.98 per unit. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a notification regarding the price hike for K-Electric consumers, implemented under a nine-month monthly fuel adjustment charge.

According to the notification, K-Electric consumers will face additional charges from June to September.

Breakdown of Additional Charges

  • June: Consumers will pay an extra Rs. 2.67 per unit.
  • July: An additional Rs. 3.10 per unit will be charged.
  • August: Consumers will incur an extra charge of Rs. 3.22 per unit.
  • September: An additional 99 paisas per unit will be applied.

The notification also clarifies that this increase will not apply to K-Electric’s lifeline consumers.

K-Electric had submitted the request for this adjustment for the period from October 2023 to March 2024. The decision underscores the ongoing adjustments in the energy sector to manage costs and ensure the stability of supply amid fluctuating fuel prices.
