The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a severe heatwave warning, with temperatures in several southern regions expected to reach dangerous levels. Karachi is forecasted to hit 41°C today as a partial heatwave grips the city.
For the next three days, Karachi’s weather is predicted to remain hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from 38°C to 40°C during the daytime. The public is strongly urged to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.
Other regions will endure even more extreme heat. Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, and Badin are expected to see temperatures between 44°C and 46°C. Jacobabad, Dadu, Shikarpur, Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, and Shaheed Benazirabad are likely to experience sweltering temperatures ranging from 46°C to 48°C.
In a slight reprieve, the Meteorological Department forecasts light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in Tharparkar and Umerkot by the end of the day.
To mitigate the effects of the heatwave, residents should take precautionary measures, such as staying indoors during peak heat hours, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding heavy physical activity. The extreme temperatures pose serious health risks, especially to older adults, children, and those with pre-existing health issues.
