The price of wheat flour in Karachi has been significantly reduced by Rs 25 per kilogram, as per a recent notification issued by the local administration, ARY News reported. The revised official retail price for fine flour is now set at Rs 100 per kilogram, while the wholesale price has been fixed at Rs 95 per kilogram. Additionally, the ex-mill price of fine flour has been established at Rs 92 per kilogram.
In a similar adjustment, the retail price of chakki flour has been reduced by Rs 8 per kilogram. According to the new notification, chakki flour will now be sold at Rs 115 per kilogram.
These changes follow the Karachi administration’s earlier decision on May 9 to regulate prices of various essential commodities, including flour and sugar. At that time, the wholesale market price of sugar was fixed at Rs 137 per kilogram, with the retail price set at Rs 140 per kilogram. The price of chakki flour was previously fixed at Rs 123 per kilogram.
Moreover, the city administration had also established prices for local bread products, setting the cost of a 120-gram tandoori naan at Rs 17 and a 100-gram chapati at Rs 12.
Commissioner Karachi has emphasized that strict action will be taken against anyone found violating these official prices, ensuring compliance and affordability for the residents of Karachi. This initiative is part of a broader effort to stabilize the cost of essential goods and provide relief to consumers amid fluctuating market conditions.
