Milk Prices in Karachi Surge by Rs 20 per Liter

Milk prices in Karachi have surged following an agreement between dairy farmers, wholesalers, and Commissioner Karachi, resulting in a Rs 20 per liter increase.

During an extensive consultation meeting, Commissioner Karachi, along with representatives from the dairy farming, wholesale, and retail sectors, deliberated on the price adjustment. After thorough discussions, a consensus was reached to raise the milk price by Rs 20 per liter, setting the new retail price at Rs 220 per liter.

Under the new pricing structure, milk will be available at the retail level for Rs 220 per liter, with the farm rate set at Rs 195 per liter and the wholesale price at Rs 205 per liter. An official notification confirming the price increase is expected to be issued later today.

This adjustment follows initial demands from dairy farmers for a farm rate of Rs 250 per liter and a retail price of Rs 297 per liter. The final agreement reflects a compromise among the stakeholders.

To ensure compliance, Commissioner Karachi has obtained written affidavits from dairy farmers, wholesalers, and retailers, committing to adhere to the new official prices. The official rates will be prominently displayed at all milk shops, and wholesalers are required to issue invoices to retailers based on sales price and quantity, ensuring transparency and quality control.

The stakeholders have assured Commissioner Karachi that there will be no further demands for a price increase until December 31, 2024, and they have pledged their cooperation with the administration to enforce the new official milk prices.
