Public Holiday in Karachi on August 20 – Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Urs 

The Sindh Government has declared a public holiday on August 20 in recognition of the annual Urs of the revered Sufi poet, Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai. This announcement, made through an official notification on Friday, applies across the entire province.

The Urs celebrations, which take place at the shrine of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai in Bhit Shah, will commence on the 14th of Safar as per the Islamic calendar. Spanning three days, the event serves as both a spiritual gathering and a cultural festival, drawing thousands of attendees to Bhit Shah.

Throughout the Urs, visitors will experience an array of activities, including recitations of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai’s poetry, traditional Sufi music performances, and cultural events that showcase Sindh’s vibrant heritage. This annual celebration not only commemorates the poet’s enduring influence but also strengthens communal ties by fostering a deeper connection to cultural traditions.
