The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Part 1 exams in Karachi are conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK). These exams are taken by students after completing their 9th grade. The SSC Part 1 examinations usually take place in March or April, with results typically announced in November. There are primarily three characterizations i.e., Arts, Commerce, and Science (Medical and computers),
Students in SSC Part 1 study a combination of compulsory and elective subjects. The compulsory subjects include:
- English
- Urdu (or Geography for foreign students)
- Pakistan Studies
- Islamic Studies (or Ethics for non-Muslims)
Science students also take Mathematics Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, while Arts/Humanities students may choose subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, or Geography and much more. The cumulative marks for SSC Part 1 are 550 out of which passing marks change every year.
The BSEK releases the results online on its official website. Students can check their results by entering their roll numbers. The grading system is based on marks, with divisions (First, Second, Third) awarded accordingly. The result determines eligibility for SSC Part 2 (10th grade). Poor performance may require supplementary exams (held later in the year).
