The Sindh government has suggested raising the minimum monthly salary to Rs 40,000 for workers across the province.
A notification was issued under the Sindh Minimum Wages Act 2015, which also outlines updated pay rates based on skill levels. According to the proposal:
Semi-skilled workers would get Rs 41,280 per month
Skilled workers would receive Rs 48,910
Highly skilled workers would earn Rs 50,868
The hourly wage rate would be Rs 192
This new wage structure includes an 8.1% increase and, if approved, will take effect from July 1, 2025. These rates would apply to all businesses, whether registered or not.
Rafiq Qureshi, Secretary of the Wage Board, said employers and others have 14 days to give their feedback or objections, which the board will review before making a final decision.
Sindh Labor Minister Shahid Thahim said female workers must be paid the same as male workers, and any company breaking wage laws will face legal action. He added that the government is dedicated to protecting workers and ensuring they are treated with dignity.
“Our workers work hard, and they deserve fair pay for their efforts,” he said.
