Suspects Apprehended in the Killing of Karachi Gold Medallist Itteqa Moin

The suspects involved in the murder of Itteqa Moin, a gold medallist mechanical engineer, have been apprehended, according to sources from the police’s crime investigation wing. Moin, 27, was fatally shot earlier this month in a robbery incident in Gulshan-e-Iqbal block 7, where the assailants fled with his motorcycle, mobile phone, and some cash.

Following the incident, police registered a case against unidentified suspects. Sources within the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) have now confirmed the arrest of Moin’s killers, who had fled to Balochistan after the crime. Their criminal records are currently being reviewed.

Senior Superintendent of Police Adeel Chandio from the Special Security Unit (SSU) reported that police teams in Balochistan successfully traced the robbers’ network. As Karachi grapples with persistent street crime, Moin’s death brings this year’s toll of robbery-related killings to 71.

Moin, an esteemed graduate from Hamdard University and a mechanical engineer at a private firm, was widely mourned. Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar responded by suspending the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Police Station House Officer (SHO) and initiating a departmental inquiry.

Politicians also expressed their sorrow and frustration over the incident, criticizing the lawlessness and the police’s inability to maintain order in the city.
