The United States responds to the detention of Pakistani social worker Sarim Burney.

The United States has responded to the arrest of Pakistani social worker Sarim Burney, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between Pakistan and the U.S. in combating crimes such as human trafficking, child trafficking, and illegal adoptions.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State stated, “The U.S. takes its responsibility seriously to monitor and enforce safeguards for the protection of children and families involved in intercountry adoptions.” The spokesperson also appreciated the cooperation of Pakistani authorities in addressing these critical issues.

In response to a question from Geo News, the spokesperson said, “We value the collaboration with Pakistani officials on these matters and commend their efforts.”

Sarim Burney was apprehended by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials upon his return from the U.S. at Karachi Airport. He has been charged with allegations of smuggling children from Pakistan to the U.S., and an FIR has been registered against him.

The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by both nations to ensure the safety and protection of vulnerable individuals and to uphold the laws against human trafficking and illegal adoptions.
