Customs authorities at Jinnah International Airport intercepted a Sri Lankan passenger attempting to smuggle over $38,000, equivalent to Rs. 16.8 million, out of the country, according to a report by ARY News on Thursday.
The passenger, identified as Amado Alpha, was en route to China on a foreign airline when the substantial amount of foreign currency was discovered and seized by customs officials.
Under Pakistani law, travelers are restricted to carrying a maximum of $5,000 in foreign currency when departing the country. Despite the confiscation of the illegal currency, the authorities allowed the passenger to proceed with his journey.
