Eid-ul-Adha 2024 in Karachi Likely on June 17

Astronomer Javed Iqbal has predicted the probable date for Eid-ul-Adha in Pakistan, forecasting the sighting time for the Zill-Hajj moon, ARY News reported. According to Iqbal, the Zill-Hajj moon will be born on June 6. He further explained that the moon is expected to be visible on Friday, June 7.

At sunset on that day, the moon will be 26 hours and 45 minutes old, surpassing the minimum visibility age of 19 hours. “The moon is likely to be visible for about 15 minutes after sunset on Friday,” he added. Based on these calculations, Javed Iqbal predicts that Eid-ul-Adha will likely be observed on Monday, June 17, in Karachi.

Meanwhile, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to convene in Karachi on Friday to confirm the sighting of the Zill-Hajj moon. The meeting will take place at the Meteorological Department office and will be presided over by Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the two major Eid festivals celebrated by Muslims worldwide. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. The festival is traditionally marked by the slaughter of animals, with the meat shared among family members and the poor. The act of sacrifice and sharing is a significant part of the three-day celebration, reflecting the spirit of giving and community.

As the date approaches, preparations for the festival are expected to intensify, with families planning their sacrifices and gatherings following tradition.
