Mayor Karachi Emphasizes Cleanliness in Suburbs, Highlights Achievements

Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced on Friday that special efforts are being made to improve cleanliness in the suburbs of Karachi, marking significant progress per the city’s promises.
In a ceremony held to inaugurate sanitation works in the Malir district, Mayor Wahab highlighted that the sanitation system across Karachi’s seven districts and twenty-five towns has seen considerable improvements. He confirmed that preparations are complete to manage waste during Eid-ul-Azha, and drain cleaning operations will commence immediately after the festival.
Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, Managing Director Sindh Solid Waste Management Board Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah, Hangzhou Company CEO Peng, local PPP leaders, and other officials attended the ceremony.
Mayor Wahab stressed the importance of self-sufficiency in waste management, noting that Karachi will now produce its dustbins to ensure garbage collection even in the suburbs. He reaffirmed the commitment to fulfill the promises made by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, ensuring equitable distribution of garbage cans across all towns.
“We have removed millions of tons of garbage from Karachi,” Wahab said, emphasizing the improved sanitation conditions. He praised the active role of local bodies in maintaining cleanliness and announced that tenders for cleaning drains have been issued ahead of the monsoon rains. These tenders will be opened on June 11, with work starting post-Eid.
