The meeting, attended by key officials including Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, focused on preventing urban flooding and promoting sustainable water resource development. Experts presented various solutions, such as developing a network of sewer tunnels similar to those in Washington DC, London, and Singapore.
Zardari highlighted the urgency of completing a feasibility study within three months and stressed the importance of securing international funding for the project. He also noted that similar issues in Hyderabad need immediate attention. The proposed plan aims to manage Karachi’s significant sewage output and prevent untreated waste from polluting the marine ecosystem.
